India got off to a good start with the magnificent show by Rohit Sharma (65 off 40 deliveries) and Virat Kohli (38 off 27 deliveries) to help India score 179 runs in the third match of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand at Seddon Park, Hamilton.  After two blips in the last two matches, Rohit Sharma finally caught the rhythm and smashed two sixes and three fours in the last over of the powerplay. However, KL Rahul, who played a vital role in India's win in the matches, could score 27 off 19 deliveries. The innings started off with New Zealand's Tim Southee, who was given the first over. Opener Rohit Sharma struggled in the first two deliveries, but soon he hit a four off the third ball to open India’s account. The bowler then saved a couple of runs off each of the fourth, fifth and sixth deliveries.

Hamish Bennett proved costly for the hosts conceding 13 runs in the second over with Rahul scoring his first six of the match. New Zealand began to leak runs and the equation changed well. The Indian openers accumulated nine runs in the third over off Southee and mounted pressure on the Kiwis. Skipper Kane Williamson asked Scott Kuggeleijn to bowl the fourth over, who conceded eight runs. Mitchell Santner came to bowl and gave away eight runs. Rohit Sharma pounded both the bowlers with a four each in both the overs. Hamish Bennett was given another chance and he disappointed his team once again after conceding 27 runs. Rahul scored a run off his first ball and then Rohit smacked the bowler by hitting two fours and three sixes to propel India 69 for no loss by the end of the powerplay. This score is the second-highest powerplay score for India in T20Is since 2019.

The Rohit-Rahul partnership was gaining momentum but soon it brought to an end after Rahul (27) was caught by Colin Munro off Colin de Grandhomme. India then surprised everyone by sending all-rounder Shivam Dueb at number three. However, I did not last long as after Rahul's departure, India lost wickets in quick succession. They lost two wickets- Rohit Sharma (65) and Shivam Dube (3) at the hands of Hamish Bennett, leaving India 96/3. Skipper Virat Kohli walked out to bat at number four along with Shreyas Iyer with number five. Both the batsmen played 12th over cautiously and scored just three with an aim to defend their wickets.

They knocked the ball around for ones and twos in 13th over and earned seven runs. Virat hit his first boundary of the match off Ish Sodhi in the 14th over and then they accumulated 15 runs from the 15th over with smashing a six and a four. Mitchell Santner sent Iyer (17) back to the Pavillion in the 17th over. Hamish Bennett struck thrice after dismissing Virat Kohli (38) in the 19th over. Manish Pandey (14) and Ravindra Jadeja (10) were unbeaten with India ended the innings at 179 for 5. You’ll be able to Live Cricket Online on our website with none charges.
